Why This Mission Matters

My Story

In 2008, I joined the United States Army. Like many young service members, I was proud to serve and committed to the mission. During my time in the military, I deployed to Afghanistan from 2010 to 2011.

When I returned home, my life changed in ways I didn’t understand at the time.

I came back with severe PTSD. I struggled to keep a job, I didn’t feel like I fit in anywhere, and I slowly lost the connections I once had with friends and people around me. I isolated myself from the world and eventually found myself homeless, unsure of where to turn for help or who I could trust.

I didn’t have a community. I didn’t have guidance. I felt completely alone.

The only way I knew how to pull myself out of that dark place was to go back into the military. In many ways, it helped stabilize my life. But what I didn’t realize at the time was that I was still carrying the same pain with me.

My PTSD continued to grow worse.

In the combat arms world, there was a strong stigma around seeking help. If you asked for support or went on a medical profile, it was often seen as weakness. I saw people judged for it, and I experienced that judgment myself.

So I did what many soldiers are taught to do.

I bottled everything up.

Eventually that pressure became too much. I reached a point where I attempted to take my own life more than once. Those were some of the darkest moments of my life. I felt like I had damaged everything around me — my family, my career, and my future.

But my story didn’t end there.

When I was stationed in Hawaii, I finally had leaders who genuinely cared about their soldiers. Instead of judging me, they supported me. They helped me find my way back when I didn’t believe in myself anymore.

At the time, it was almost strange to experience that kind of support.

I had spent years being a leader and mentor to others. I tried to lead with respect, to set the example, and to take care of my soldiers. Yet when someone complimented me or recognized the work I had done, I brushed it off because I didn’t believe I deserved it.

After leaving the military, I began to realize something important.

I am not the only veteran going through this.

Every day, veterans are struggling with the transition from military life to civilian life. Many are dealing with PTSD, loss of identity, financial stress, and a lack of community. Some are homeless. Some are simply trying to figure out where they belong again.

And many of them are trying to do it alone.

That realization is what led me to create At Ease HQ.

After more than a decade of leadership in the military, I realized that my mission didn’t end when I took the uniform off. My mission now is to help veterans find stability, purpose, and community after service.

Through At Ease HQ, I want to:

• Help homeless veterans find housing and stability

• Help veterans start businesses and build financial independence

• Help veterans navigate VA benefits and resources

• Help veterans facing PTSD know they are not alone

• Create a community where veterans can talk openly without judgment

Most importantly, I want to make sure no veteran ever feels the way I once felt — alone, lost, and without support.

When I left the military, I wanted help. But I didn’t have the money or the resources to access the support I needed. No one showed me how to navigate the system or where to begin.

So today, I’m learning everything I can about the systems, resources, and programs available so I can educate, mentor, and guide veterans the right way.

And I made one promise to myself when I started this mission.

I will never charge a veteran for help.

Not one dollar.

Veterans have already paid their price through service and sacrifice. I believe support should always be accessible to them without financial barriers.

That’s why donations play such an important role in this mission.

Every donation helps us continue supporting veterans and their families by providing guidance, connecting them with resources, and sometimes helping with simple but critical needs — things like groceries, utilities, or emergency support during difficult times.

Because sometimes something as small as keeping the lights on or putting food on the table can give someone the breathing room they need to keep going.

At Ease HQ exists to ensure that no veteran has to fight their battles alone after service.

This mission is bigger than me. It’s about building a community where veterans lift each other up, support one another, and move forward together.

And with the support of people who believe in this mission, we can continue building a place where veterans can finally hear the words they deserve:

At ease.
